Shmira Options
Arevim offers two options for Internet shmira:
1. By far the most popular, we have a “buddy system,” provided through Covenant Eyes, which is described in detail on our home page. In short, a person’s browsing history is logged and automatically scored, with a weekly summary sent to a close friend, his “buddy.”
2. Some people prefer the filter option, usually due to its increased privacy. Fortunately, Covenant Eyes also offers a filter. Upon approval from a “filter guardian,” a password can allow particular sites through the filter.
Unlike most other filters, these settings can be edited online, from anywhere. So if someone is in the midst of last-minute research for a paper, and urgently needs a site that’s unexpectedly blocked, he doesn’t need to track down the filter guardian and hand him the computer, but can just send a quick text or email. Although not quite as convenient as the buddy system, it provides a private and easy safeguard to Internet usage.
Unfortunately, the filter is not subsidized, and costs $1.50 monthly. Nonetheless, we invite you to invest this small amount for one month; if it’s not helpful, you can unsubscribe. To sign up for the filter, contact us directly.
